Overview.

Set off on a 7-day Uganda Rwanda safari tour with Scarlet Safaris and experience spectacular wildlife sightings and unforgettable interactions with both countries, Rwanda and Uganda.

During your trip, you will visit the famous Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Volcanoes National park in Rwanda.

Encounter the endangered mountain gorillas, rare chimpanzees, elephants, lions and a myriad of other wildlife! Embark on game drives, explore Ugandan and Rwandan lush vegetation and experience East Africa’s captivating natural world.

Day 1: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National park.

Welcome to Uganda, the pearl of Africa! Your driver/guide will be ready to pick you up from your morning flight or hotel at 8am.  Here, the guide will introduce himself and go through with you a thorough briefing of your tour.

Then off on your drive from Kampala / Entebbe to Queen Elizabeth National park.  It’s about 6-7 hour drive pass the equator in Mpigi district, where you’ll stop to take impressive photos.

Lunch will be taken halfway in the township of Mbarara. Proceed through farmlands, savannahs, rolling hills, tea plantations and scenic crater lakes.

Arrive at your accommodation, and you have plenty of time to freshen up, relax and enjoy the views of Kyambura gorge as well as the game – filled plains of Queen Elizabeth national park.

Day 2: Game drive and Boat cruise.

Early morning wake up and begin your game safari at 6:30am. An early morning game drive is absolutely the most rewarding as you are able to see variety of mammals including the rarest ones. Traverse the Kasenyi plains in the east of Kasese road, a renowned habitat for the lions which prey on large populations of Uganda Kobs that dwell in this area.

Other than lions, the park shelters up to 95 mammal species, which are all well worth a visit. Permanent residents here include; elephants, Uganda kobs, warthogs, waterbucks, giant forest hogs, leopards and hyenas.

Retreat for lunch, have a short break as you head straight to Mweya jetty for a leisurely boat cruise along the legendary Kazinga channel.

An afternoon launch cruise down the Kazinga channel is the most relaxing way to enjoy a wildlife safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The Kazinga channel is a 40km long stream that stretches between Lake George and Lake Edward.

The channel shores are thronged with schools of hippos, buffaloes and water birds, along with crocodiles, monitor lizards, Marabou storks, weaver birds and elegant pairs of fish eagles.

Return from this 2 hour experience and drive back to the lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi National park. Via Ishasha sector.

After breakfast, you will transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Drive through the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National park called Ishasha. This is a famous region to sight tree-climbing lions. Try out your luck to spot these elusive species as well as some other wild game, such as Topis, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, Hippos, etc.

With lunch en route at Savannah Lodge in Kihihi, proceed to Bwindi impenetrable forest, the famous home to the endangered mountain gorillas.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking. Overnight at Lake Bunyonyi.

Early morning after breakfast and a briefing from the UWA officials, set off for the gorilla tracking.

This is a once life time experience and unforgettable adventure.  The ranger guides will lead you into the impenetrable forest and start your search for the endangered Mountain Gorillas.

You will move up and down the rugged terrain until you finally meet these harmonious creatures that will entertain you with performances for about 1 hour.

The activity can take between 2-7 hours since the gorillas move up and down and their movements can’t be pre-determined. This is an awe some and exciting moment.

En route there are lots of birds, reptiles, abundant flora and several species of the primates such as the monkeys, baboons and much more.

You will eventually meet them, and maximize this moment while with them; take as many pictures, and ask as many questions as possible and acquaint yourself with their daily routine. Watch them feed, protect themselves and most importantly, observe their family bondage just like human beings.

After 1 hour, retreat from the jungles, and track back to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.

After lunch, proceed to Lake Bunyonyi – Uganda’s deepest lake and most scenic lake in East Africa. Other than being the second deepest lake in Africa, it has a myriad of islands, up to 29.

Take a sunset boat ride to discover some of the islands, and the unique communities on the shores of the lake.

Day 5: Sunrise Canoe ride. Transfer to Volcanoes NP.

The day begins with sightseeing on a traditional dugout canoe as you rediscover Lake Bunyonyi and her numerous islands.

Experience one of Uganda’s breathtaking scenery and feel the wonders of nature as you will see big terraced hills, spectacular valleys, friendly people and pockets of forests perched on individual islands amidst the lake!

Retreat from this experience and thereafter drive to Rwanda as you enjoy beautiful scenery of the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known for and take an evening tour to the twin lakes – Ruhondo and Bulera.

Arrive in Ruhengeri, on the outskirts of Volcanoes national park, for dinner and overnight at your pre-booked accommodation.

Day 6: Golden monkey trekking. Ib’yiwachu village tour.

Take a delicious breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing, before finally entering into the dense jungles of Pac National Des Vulcans.

Just like gorilla trekking, only 8 individuals are permitted to view a given troop of golden monkeys per day. The adventure lasts averagely 1-5 hours and is done at closer view of the other resident primates in the park such as the red tailed monkeys, Vervet monkeys, Blue and black colobus monkeys, olive baboons, among others.

After the golden monkey trekking adventure, you will spend the rest of your evening enjoying cultural performances at the famous Ib’yiwachu cultural village in the outskirts of Volcanoes national park.

This place presents impressive highlights of a typical traditional Rwandan village, and a rich culture that has existed for centuries. It also gives the visitors great opportunities to meet the local people in their daily life activities, portraying how they  produce the local banana beer (Urwagwa) from the primary stage to the finished product, visitors can even have a taste of the local beer.

After this encounter, retreat back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali. City tour & Departure.

After breakfast, you will leave Volcanoes national park for Kigali. Upon arrival in Kigali, have the opportunity to visit different attractions of historical and cultural significance. These include, the Kigali genocide center, Kigali craft market, Belgian monument, presidential palace museum and other iconic features in the city.

Afterwards, you will be transferred to the airport for onward flight.
